The mysterious disappearance of Joe Wood from Mount Rainier
JOSEPH "JOE" WOOD, DISAPPEARED JULY,8, 1999, NEAR RAMPARTS RIDGE TRAIL, MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, WASHINGTON.
Revised April 2024
On July 8, 1999, 34-year-old Joe Wood drove alone to Mount Rainier National Park to do some hiking and bird watching.
He was never seen again and no evidence has turned up in over two decades later. Joe became the sixty-fifth missing person in the history of Mount Rainier National Park.
What happened to Joe that day on his day hike? Friends and co-workers believe he may have been subject to a racially motivated attack, whilst the authorities believe more likely he was swept away in a river after falling through a snow bridge.
Mt. Rainier has been the scene of several mysterious disappearances.
